Christmas 2014

Ahhh Christmas, how I love you and hate you at the same time! This year though the boys had a great Christmas, and I enjoyed every second of watching them gaze in the glory of presents under the tree! They both got so many new things! I forgot how completely overwhelming baby toys can be. John Henry has his own little corner of the living room designated for all of his toys.

Every year I try to keep up with our traditions and make up some new ones along the way. This year Jake, our Elf on the Shelf came back for Jaiden and now John Henry. John Henry just thought he was another chew toy.. We made sugar cookies and decorated gingerbread houses, which for Jaiden and I was super exciting. We worked super hard on our houses and Jaiden was especially proud of his.
I work every Christmas Eve until about 7 or 8pm, so we really don't make plans on Christmas Eve. Jaiden spends it with his Dad because they celebrate and open gifts and have dinner on Christmas Eve. So before John Henry, John and I maybe went out to dinner, or made a special dinner at home and then finished up wrapping gifts, and hit the hay early. Christmas day for us is always a hustle & bustle kind of day, so we can use all the sleep we can get! This year was a little less chaotic. Normally I go and pick Jaiden up from his Grandma around 8am. Then we head back to our house to open gifts, get ready and then we head over to my moms for breakfast, where normally my grandma, uncles, aunt and cousins are there. We eat, open gifts, hang out and then on to the next. Which is my dads, for early dinner. My aunt Dana comes home for Christmas from California every year. And I always get to see Nana and Bud, which we don't see them but a few times throughout the year. Then it's normally ended with a late dinner with John's family. They always wake up in the afternoon, so by the time they are ready to go we are wrapping things up with my dad.

This year..

On Christmas Eve, Jake the Elf, left Jaiden some reindeer food to sprinkle on the lawn before he went to bed. The glitter helps Rudolph find our house. Of course I worked on Christmas Eve, so Jaiden couldn't sprinkle the food before it was dark outside.

Jaiden then left out some milk and cookies for Santa. He was very adamant that he pour the milk himself. He only almost spilled once.

Cookies and Milk are served!!
One of the new things I started (and one of my personal favorites.) I bought brand new stockings for us this year. I was going to have our names stitched on them, but then I thought of a cool way for us to be able to leave them plain. When I was growing up, at my dads, none of the stockings had names, and we all got a different stocking every year. So sticking with that same idea, I thought it would be neat to every year get a new ornament that describes each person in our family, something that would relate to a current interest or hobby. For John, this year the answer is always beer, so naturally a Bud Light ornament was totally happening. My new obsession of choice is Starbucks Iced Coffee, again another necessity. I got Jaiden and John Henry more personalized ornaments. Jaiden's was a guy who was a black belt, and John Henry's was a "Baby's 1st Christmas" picture frame. My whole thing with this is when we get a bigger house, I want each of them to have a mini tree and have ornaments to decorate, and then later, later they'll have a set of ornaments that are special to them when they grow up and have their first Christmas tree!
There is nothing I love more than seeing tons of presents under a beautiful Christmas tree!
The boys on Christmas morning.
John Henry is loving his Anywhere chair!
And Jaiden got pretty stoked that he got Eric Church's CD.

After we were done opening gifts, my parents came over to see Jaiden before he jetted off to Orlando. Lucky boy left Christmas Day and is going to be gone for 4 days! My parents, sister, niece and John,s dad and brother came over for Christmas breakfast. John and I cooked pancakes, eggs, bacon and toast this year, and boy was it good! After breakfast my stepdad helped John set up his new sound bar that I bought him. And I was busy exploring on my new computer that John got for me. I would say that we both really got into the Christmas spirit for each other. Normally we only spoil the kids, but we went above and beyond for each other this year too! After my parents left, John's sister came over and we watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.. Honestly admitting that I've only ever seen bits and pieces so I had to buy it and make a point to watch it this year. We got to rest in the afternoon before we went to my dad's which never happens. In all reality when we have an opportunity to rest, we don't. I don't think that John and I fully grasp the meaning of the word.

Next up, my dads! My brother was home(he normally lives in Morgantown, WV),  my aunt comes in from Cali and we get to see our grandparents who we only really see a few times a year. Plus we always have the "traditional" Christmas dinner with turkey, potatoes, the whole 9. And I love it. I always eat way too much! After dinner I had a great idea to go through all of our old pictures from way back. That was probably the best idea ever! We all had so much fun looking through old pictures and laughing at the horrible outfits, hairdos, and oddly grown facial hair. It was great.

Meanwhile, Jaiden was having the time of his life in Florida. They went and saw the Fireworks behind Cinderella's castle. He looks like he is having so much fun! I will have more pictures from the rest of his trip once they get back, but here are just a few!

Now it's just about getting ready for the new year. Poor John Henry has been sick all weekend, so we will see how the week turns out!

Jaiden & John's Christmas Wish List + December So Far

So again working in retail I have learned many things which I am going to pass on. Unless you are waiting in line to receive a $2000 television for $350, Black Friday shopping is not worth the hassle. It's not worth the frustration, and it sure as hell is not worth the potential arrest record that one might ensue in a night or day of Black Friday shopping. I can guarantee that. The 50% off that the retailers in the mall are having, are the exact same 50% off sales that they will be having 1 week from now. Or even tomorrow. So with that, John and I always do our Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving. We always go to Toys r' us and pick out the presents before the craziness begins. If we happen to shop afterward, then it is merely little things here and there that we think Jaiden and now John Henry would like. I'm so excited for John Henry's 1st Christmas. The good news is that Jaiden will be here for Christmas this year which is super exciting! We had planned on him going to Peru for 2 weeks over holiday break, but now he will be going to Disney World on Christmas Day. Lucky kid!

Last year John and I went all out for Jaidens Christmas just because we weren't sure how much the financial struggle would be with 2 kids, but it's been good to us. We have tons of family members so Jaiden always gets pretty spoiled around Christmas. We are so excited for John Henry's first Christmas! We have already got so many great gift ideas for him! I have been dying to get him the Anywhere Chair from Pottery Barn Kids. They had a $20 off over Black Friday and since I was already at the mall anyways, why not? That is going to be his BIG present this year and I'm so stoked. I still haven't have found the perfect BIG present for Jaiden(finally), I figured since John Henry was getting the big chair, that I would stick to that theme and get Jaiden one of those huge Pillows with the arms. His favorite college football team is West Virginia University and I came across this awesome pillow on Amazon. My dad is making him a DIY corn hole board which John and I are both also very excited about! We are always looking for fun things we can all do together so this game is going to get tons of use! Jaiden is going to be so excited also! He has wanted corn hole boards since we went to the pumpkin patch and we played with them there.

Little picture for our Christmas cards this year!

Jaiden also tested for his Black Belt. I can't believe that he is already a black belt! There were about a million people there, so I couldn't get the greatest pictures. But I will talk plenty at the actual belt ceremony.

Meanwhile Jake, our Elf on the Shelf has been up to his normal self. He mainly likes to goof off in the kitchen. He's a foodie. Who can blame him?

We also braved it and took Jaiden and John to visit Santa. Jaiden looks like he is afraid of Santa, and Santa wasn't too thrilled to be holding a baby. You would think he would be used to it by now.

I also tried some of my new recipes that I have discovered on pinterest and various blogs. Me, my mom and my grandma had our first ever Holiday Baking party? I guess it was a party. We sure did party hardy into the wee hours of the night. Well more like 11pm, but hey 10 is past my bedtime.

John Henry also is 7 months old!

Stats:

20lbs.

He can officially sit up on our own. No weebles, No wobbles. Yay. He is 5/5 on new veggies and fruits. Mainly veggies. He likes squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and peaches. Another Yay!

-He has begun saying things like "Dada" and kind of maybe saying "mama." (I can only hope.)
- He has 2 little chompers in that adorable mouth of his.
- He is way better on his tummy and is super close to crawling.

This month is always crazy. I have about 4 craft projects, and cooking days that I have wanted to get done this month. Alas they are still 3/4 of the way incomplete. Ugh. I hate that I am always so busy this time of the year! But I will get them done the week after Christmas and they will be super ready for next year!

If I don't write before then, Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving 2014

Can I just mention how much I love Thanksgiving? I mean love. I love the food. I love spending the time with my family. Did I mention the food? This being John Henry's very 1st Thanksgiving and all made it that much more special! Everyone came over to our house for an early dinner. By the time we were done, my mom and I had to peel ourselves off of the kitchen table. I tried my hand this year at some new things.. I made cinnamon butter than I got from Little Baby Garvin, one of my fave blogs, I tried again to make crock pot green beans, and they came out amazing! I was so thrilled with the outcome! And last year John said that he liked "my moms" (really my step dads) mac & cheese better, but this year did I show him! I made the mac and cheese and it was so good! I was amazed!

And did I mention it snowed on Wednesday? If this is a sign of what's to come. I'm not happy!

A childhood friend of mine runs her own screen-printing business and she makes all sorts of festive shirts for the holidays. I bought one for me and the babes to match. Of course trying to get a picture of all of us wearing the matching shirts together, just wasn't in the cards. So I did manage to get one of each of the kids wearing theirs! I can't wait to buy the Christmas shirts for the boys and try again!

And John Henry wore baby jeans for the very 1st time! He is so stinking cute!

John Henry & Emma Grace on their very 1st Thanksgiving!

Pops, Jaiden & John Henry hanging out!

Thanksgiving was a success yet again this year! Glad we were able to spend the time with our family. I had to work Thanksgiving day and pretty much the entire Black Friday weekend. So needless to say right now I am damn tired! I'm hoping that next year I will be able to spend the entire day with my family. Jaiden was hopping from grandma to grandma while John Henry kept John entertained and pretty busy for the weekend. And looks like little mister is about to have a second tooth break through the gums. Wahh.

Now it's officially 25 days until Christmas. Ready for non stop working, holiday parties, baking parties and gingerbread making parties for the win.

Happy Holidays!

Half Birthday & 6 Month Update

6 months! Ahhhh! I cannot fathom that my sweet boy is already 6 months old! My mind is not quite ready to process the thought that in another very short 6 months he will be 1! We are trying very hard to savor and hold onto every last minute of this baby stage! Don't get me wrong, I love to watch every single second of his growing up and discovering new things, but he's just so little and when he's too big to fall asleep on my chest, I'm gonna be a little sad.

Stats:

Weight: 18lbs 10oz - 50th percentile
Height: 26 inches - 25th percentile

Milestones:

1st tooth has officially broken through the gums! On many occasions he has put his fingers in his mouth and bit down and started to cry. Poor baby was so upset!

He is still sort of sleeping okay. When he was sick for a while, we kept him in our room and now trying to get him to sleep in his crib again is hard work. I had a feeling something like that would happen.   We are trying to work on the whole crib thing this week. Fingers crossed!

John Henry can now sit up all by his self. He can catch himself if he loses his balance 90% of the time. He loves being able to see everything from that point of view. He hates his tummy and when he is on his back he is trying to sit himself up, so naturally he is very excited when he is sitting in the middle of the floor and he can see EVERYTHING!

John Henry is fascinated with so many things. He loves water, so sitting him in his high chair next to the turtle tank, he just stares at the water pouring from the filter for a while. He is also in love with the dog. He loves to grab her fur and whenever he sees her walking around, he is breaking his neck trying to follow.

He is still hating life on his tummy. We've got him to where he can be on his tummy for about 10 minutes before he completely LOSES IT. He is a sitter. Still slightly supported, but he can catch himself a lot better now if he loses his balance.

We just love him and every little bit of his chubby baby legs to pieces! He is just the happiest little guy who loves his daddy, brother, and mommy too, but Daddy and Jaiden seem to get more conversations out of him, whereas I get baby spit and sneeze and raspberries. All of which I don't mind!

We are super excited for everything going on this week! It snowed for the first time this year, so John Henry's first time seeing snow, and it's Thanksgiving tomorrow! I got Jaiden, John Henry and I matching turkey shirts and I cannot wait to sport them tomorrow! There will be plenty of pictures to come, promise!

Football & Chicken Noodle Soup

This weekend marked my last weekend off until 2015. I have one Sunday off between now and New Years. Please God help me. I do not think that I can deal. Of course my life wouldn't be my life without some chaos and craziness. Saturday was my crazy.

This Saturday was the beginning of a cold front that has swept over our area. And when I mean cold, I mean blistering, windy as shit cold. It's stupid. I despise winter. Saturday morning Jaiden had his first game in his football playoffs. We were like 3-6 the entire season, so I wasn't quite sure that we were going to make it past the 1st game. Well of course in 30 degree weather, they end up tying the game, go into overtime, where we won with a safety! Woop Woop! The second game, John Henry stayed home with Daddy where it was much warmer. That second game was against a team that went undefeated the entire season. We scored the first touchdown, but then proceeded to get stomped on during the 2nd half. But the boys did a great job! They did not get discouraged and kept going, despite the fact that we they were getting beat.

This was Jaiden's very first flag football season, and I would bet that it was probably his favorite sports season yet. He is already talking about spring Flag football, and then TACKLE football in the fall. Please help me. I don't think that I am ready for Jaiden to play tackle football.

After the game we had our end of season party at Sweet Frog! Jaidens favorite! I think Jaiden was more sad about the season being over because he made a lot of friends this season. So I see some play dates in the near future.

When we got home, the task for the day was cleaning house! We live right in front of about a thousand trees, so our backyard lately has been a haven for fallen leaves. It's so bad Berkley won't even use the grass, she goes on the patio. Which is a whole other story mess. John and Jaiden like to do yard work together. I think it's more because John can scare Berkley with whatever loud noise machine he seems to get his hands on. And Jaiden just loves to be outside. Any excuse he can get. Even when it's freezing!

On Sunday it was still freezing. I did a photo session early that morning and by the time I was done, my fingers were absolutely numb! I don't even know how I was able to take pictures for nearly 2 hours! I came home after picking Jaiden up from my mom, and we started making something to warm the soul. Homemade chicken noodle soup..The noodles were even homemade, and my god was it the most delicious thing I have ever tasted! Well one of them at least. Jaiden had fun helping me make the noodles, which next time will be done a lot more in advance. The process didn't appear to take as long as it did in reality, but it was a fun, white, powdery mess by the end!

It's funny cause making the soup made me think of one of my favorite books when I was a kid. Well actually I was a huge fan of the 'Chicken soup for the Soul' books, but there was one more that I was in love with when I was about Jaiden's age. This was one of my faves and I'm so glad that I snagged it from my dad's house a few weeks back! It was the perfect opportunity and made for a festive, themed evening! And I love a good theme!

So I would just like to point out, that my life is not a week behind. Seeing as my posting this particular blog entry about my weekend, well today is actually the next weekend. So just a disclaimer..My life is not behind, my mind is. Plain and simple. And writing one entry, editing, and adding photos and such apparently is a week long process. I'll get better. I promise!
